Description

This 90-minute, family-friendly workshop is designed to be both fun and educational, with participants learning interesting facts about architecture and how it shapes the landscape around them.

UVA Rotunda and Fan Row Houses made out of Lego bricks

Participants will work together to create a sprawling miniature city skyline, showcasing the overlap between LEGO® products , play, and architecture. The workshop will also provide participants with amazing tips and tricks for building with LEGO bricks, and is suitable for all skill levels. After the program, participants are encouraged to head upstairs and view VMHC's "Traveling Bricks" exhibit, which features more than 100 models of iconic land, air, sea, and space vehicles constructed from nearly 1 million LEGO bricks.

Headshot of Ben Edlavitch - a white man with mustache wearing a grey baseball cap, glasses, and a white t-shirt with red trimThe workshop will be taught by Ben Edlavitch, a season 4 competitor on Fox's LEGO Masters competition show. Edlavitch is a student at the University of Virginia studying community-focused architecture. His passion for the subject stems from a lifelong love of LEGO bricks and play. Edlavitch approaches architecture with the same playful logic he learned from building with LEGO bricks: that you can take anything apart and put it back together again in a way that makes it better. Edlavitch believes that creating a connection between imaginative play and architecture is essential and can help bring the profession into the present day. He feels that play allows people to explore ideas freely, without judgment, and can open opportunities for creativity and discovery.

Important Notes:

  • Participants do not need to supply their own LEGO bricks
  • Participants will not take home the built model after the workshop.
  • The November 9th and 16th workshops are sold out. Tickets are still available for December 8th and this session on December 14th.
