In 1824, the Marquis de Lafayette, the last living Continental Army general from the American Revolution, returned to tour the United States as the "Nation's Guest." Over the next year, Lafayette was received with a hero's welcome as he visited each of the then 24 American states, attending honors such as parades, balls, and dinners. 

On January 25, 1825, the Virginia General Assembly and other dignitaries, including Chief Justice John Marshall, hosted Lafayette in Richmond with a dinner and ball. Exactly 200 years later to the day, the VMHC will commemorate the anniversary of this dinner with a special evening program at 6:30 pm. (doors open at 5:45 pm).

Highlights include:

• Historically inspired meal and drinks, featuring the Lafayette Bicentennial Wine Series from Williamsburg Winery. 
• Historic music performed on period instruments provided by Music of the Regiment. 
• Special display of original VMHC manuscripts and museum objects related to Lafayette's life and legacy. 
• Traveling panel exhibit from the American Friends of Lafayette.
• Remarks from special guests.
• Intimate performance by renowned Colonial Williamsburg Nation Builders Mark Schneider and Stephen Seals, portraying the Marquis de Lafayette and James Fayette, respectively, in conversation about their life and legacies. 
• Historically inspired champagne toasts.

This program is presented in partnership with the American Friends of Lafayette and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and is part of the VMHC's 250th Intitative.
