,Description
In this series, VMHC staff curate displays featuring some of the museum’s millions of artifacts and manuscripts that are not currently on exhibit. These themed presentations provide an opportunity for guests to examine the museum’s collection up close while interacting with VMHC staff members.
1/7 Event - Up in Smoke: The History of Tobacco in Virginia - From pre-European settlement to the modern day, tobacco has played a central role in the development of Virginia's economy and culture. Join us as we highlight hundreds of years of tobacco-related collection items from the people and businesses involved with Virginia's famous cash crop.
3/4 Event - Commonwealth Kids: Virginia's Children and their Stories - History is often told by adults, but these adults were not always the mature people you learn about in school—they were kids once, too. Join us as we look at how children throughout Virginia’s history have experienced childhood based on their individual circumstances and the place and time in which they lived.
5/6 Event - A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Photography in Virginia - Photography has documented and interpreted life in Virginia for more than 150 years. Join us as we survey this visual record, including daguerreotypes, panoramas, tintypes, lantern slides, photogravure, early experiments in color, and aerial photography.
Program takes place from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Guests who purchase tickets to all three presentations receive a 25% discount. Additional discount for VMHC Members, please log in to register.
