Description

Event program showing black and white photo of students from St. Francis and St. Emma schoolsDiscover the forgotten history and untold stories of how the historic Belmead Plantation on the James River transitioned into two schools of higher learning for Native and African American young men and women.

Hear testimonies from former cadets about the nation's only Black military academy in continuous operation from 1895 to 1972, and its sister school founded by Katharine Drexel, who would become one of only two American-born saints in the Roman Catholic Church.

This program is full of vintage visuals from both schools, and a panel discussion with former alumni and audience participation.

A light reception will follow the program.
