Civics Education at the VMHC
There has never been a more important time to support and empower civics education. The Virginia Museum of History & Culture, through major strategic investment as part of its leading work to mark America’s 250th anniversary, has become the preeminent hub for K-12 civics education in the Commonwealth.
In a major development, Virginia Civics, a Charlottesville-based, well-respected civics organization known for its flagship We the People and Project Citizen programs, has become part of the VMHC. These programs engage K–12 students in constitutional literacy, civic engagement, and public policy through competitions and showcases.
In 2023, the John Marshall Center for Constitutional History & Civics became part of the VMHC. Now, the JMC has grown stronger through the addition of The Rule of Law Project (ROL). Originally developed with support from the Virginia Bar Association, ROL educates students about democratic principles and is now incorporated into Civics Connects, the VMHC’s new comprehensive civics and economics learning platform for middle school. Civics Connects offers interactive content, aligned with Virginia’s learning standards, and is endorsed by state educational leaders.
Together, these partnerships significantly expand the VMHC’s impact, creating one of the most robust and innovative civics education initiatives in the nation. Your gift to support civics education at the VMHC is appreciated and will help us continue to serve our community, Commonwealth, and beyond long into the future.
