On February 24, 2015, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Joint Resolution No. 797 “Designating March 14, in 2015 and in each succeeding year, as a Day of Honor for the Marquis de Lafayette in Virginia.” As part of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture's 250th Initiative, join the VMHC and the American Friends of Lafayette for a special evening honoring the legacy of the French general who played a vital role in securing American independence and championing human rights around the world.
Highlights include:
- Historically inspired heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks, featuring the Lafayette Bicentennial Wine Series from Williamsburg Winery. Winemakers will be available to provide tasting notes.
- Music from the 18th and 19th centuries performed by baroque flutist and pianist Kaylan Stevenson and dramatic coloratura soprano Laura Heydt.
- Rousing fife and drum tunes popular during Lafayette's travels across the United States.
- Intimate performance by renowned Colonial Williamsburg Nation Builder Mark Schneider, portraying the Marquis de Lafayette.
- Remarks from French dignitaries.
- Traveling panel exhibit from the American Friends of Lafayette.
- Special library display of original VMHC manuscripts related to Lafayette's life and legacy.
- After-hours access to the VMHC's exhibits, including the recently opened, Revolutionary Allies: Foreign Friends of American Independence.

- 5:30 pm – Doors Open, Wine and Hors d’oeuvres
- 6:15 – 8:30 pm – Intermittent Programming
